Symbiq™ Infusion System is intended for the delivery of fluids, solutions, drugs, agents, nutritionals, electrolytes, blood and blood products via parenteral, enteral, intravenous, intra-arterial, subcutaneous, epidural or irrigation routes of administration. They are intended primarily for use in the hospital setting and can be used in other acute and non-acute care areas, such as, but not limited to, Nursing Homes, Mobile Intensive Care, Ambulatory Infusion Centers, Hospice, Subacute Facilities, Outpatient/Surgical Centers, Long-term Care, Urgent Care, Transport and Physician Offices.
Device Story
Primary Symbiq Set (List 16120) is an intravascular administration set designed for use with the Symbiq Infusion Pump. Components include a MICRODRIP drop former, sight chamber, backcheck valve, two CLAVE Y-sites, distal microbore tubing, and a 0.2-micron filter. The device provides a sterile fluid pathway for administering fluids, drugs, or blood products from a container to a patient's vascular system. Operated by clinicians in hospital or acute care settings, the set facilitates controlled fluid delivery. This submission updates labeling to qualify the set for flow rates between 100 ml/hr and 500 ml/hr, expanding the previously cleared range of 0.1 ml/hr to 100 ml/hr. The device ensures accurate delivery within ±10% at these higher rates, supporting clinical decision-making for high-volume infusion requirements.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. System verification testing confirmed delivery accuracy performance at 500 ml/hr. The device met all acceptance criteria and accuracy claims under standard conditions.
Technological Characteristics
Intravascular administration set; non-DEHP materials; includes MICRODRIP drop former, sight chamber, backcheck valve, 2 CLAVE Y-sites, distal microbore tubing, and 0.2-micron filter. Flow rate range: 0.1 ml/hr to 500 ml/hr. Sterile, single-patient use. Mechanical fluid delivery system.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients requiring delivery of fluids, drugs, nutritionals, electrolytes, or blood products via parenteral, enteral, intravenous, intra-arterial, subcutaneous, epidural, or irrigation routes in hospital, acute, or non-acute care settings.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
An intravascular administration set is a device used to administer fluids from a container to a patient's vascular system through a needle or catheter inserted into a vein. The device may include the needle or catheter, tubing, a flow regulator, a drip chamber, an infusion line filter, an I.V. set stopcock, fluid delivery tubing, connectors between parts of the set, a side tube with a cap to serve as an injection site, and a hollow spike to penetrate and connect the tubing to an I.V. bag or other infusion fluid container.
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The special control for pharmacy compounding systems within this classification is the FDA guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Pharmacy Compounding Systems; Final Guidance for Industry and FDA Reviewers.” Pharmacy compounding systems classified within the intravascular administration set are exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of this part and subject to the limitations in § 880.9.
