Intended Use

The SP Endoscope, 0° is intended to provide stereoscopic imaging enabling surgeons to perform minimally invasive endoscopic surgery with the da Vinci SP system. The endoscope supports standard visible light color imaging and near-infrared fluorescence imaging.

Device Story

The SP Endoscope, 0° is a component of the da Vinci SP Surgical System, a robotic-assisted surgical device (RASD). It functions as an adjunct imaging system providing stereoscopic visualization. The device transmits visible light or near-infrared (NIR) excitation laser light from an Endoscope Controller via optical fibers to illuminate the surgical site. A stereoscopic camera at the endoscope tip captures images in either visible or fluorescence mode. Used in hospital settings by surgeons, the device enables minimally invasive procedures by providing real-time visual feedback of anatomy and tissue perfusion. The output is displayed to the surgeon via the da Vinci SP system console, facilitating surgical decision-making and tissue assessment. The subject device is a modification of the predicate, featuring an increased number of allowed clinical uses (50) and reprocessing cycles (60).

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. No clinical data. Testing included design verification, reliability testing, cleaning validation (per AAMI ST98:2022, TIR 12:2020, TIR 30:2011, ISO 17664-1:2022), transit verification (ASTM D4169-22), biocompatibility (ISO 10993-1:2018), and EMC testing (IEC 60601-1-2:2020). Simulated clinical use testing validated that user needs were met.

Technological Characteristics

Stereoscopic endoscope for robotic-assisted surgery. Materials are biocompatible per ISO 10993-1. Features optical fibers for visible/NIR illumination and a stereoscopic camera. Sterilization via steam. Multiple-use device. Compatible with da Vinci SP Firefly Imaging System and SP Camera Sheath. Designed for 50 clinical uses and 60 reprocessing cycles.

Indications for Use

Indicated for real-time endoscopic visible and near-infrared fluorescence imaging to enable minimally invasive surgery, including visual assessment of vessels, blood flow, and tissue perfusion.
