Intended Use
The Sunmed™ Inflation Device is a set of accessorial device. It is composed of an inflation device, and may be composed of a stopcock and a hemostatic valve. The inflation device is intended for use in PTCA or PTA procedures to create and monitor pressure (by connecting the rotating male luer of inflation device with the balloon catheter's female luer) in the balloon and to deflate the balloon. The hemostatic valve kit is recommended for use during PTCA or PTA procedures in conjunction and/or diagnostic device (e.g. balloon dilatation catheters). Stopcock is used to release and purge any trapped air (if used).
Device Story
Sunmed Inflation Device is a manual, disposable 30ml syringe-based system for PTCA/PTA procedures. Operator (clinician) manipulates a large handle to drive a piston, creating up to 40ATM of pressure within a balloon catheter. Pressure is monitored via an integrated gauge. System may include a stopcock for air purging and a hemostatic valve (Y-connector) to provide an access port for interventional devices, including an insertion tool for guidewires and a torquer for guidewire manipulation. Device is used in clinical settings to facilitate balloon dilatation; output is mechanical pressure control and access port management. Benefits include precise balloon inflation/deflation and controlled interventional access.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data. Evidence consists of non-clinical bench testing, including biocompatibility (pyrogen, endotoxin, acute systemic toxicity, intracutaneous reactivity, cytotoxicity, skin sensitization, hemolysis, complement activity, thrombogenicity), package integrity, asepsis, aging, and EtO/ECH residue testing.
Technological Characteristics
Disposable 30ml manual inflation device; max pressure 40ATM; piston-driven mechanism with pressure gauge. Includes optional stopcock and hemostatic valve (Y-connector) with insertion tool and torquer. Materials, packaging, and sterilization methods are equivalent to predicate devices. No software or electronic components.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients undergoing PTCA or PTA procedures requiring balloon inflation, pressure monitoring, and deflation. Used in conjunction with balloon dilatation catheters.
Regulatory Classification
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The device, when it is a non-patient contacting balloon inflation syringe intended only to inflate/deflate balloon catheters and monitor pressure within the balloon, is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 870.9.
