Intended Use

The EBI XFIX DFS® OptiROM™ Elbow Fixator external fixation device is intended for use in upper extremity treatment of bone and soft tissue conditions and other bone conditions amenable to treatment by use of the external treatment modality. Possible applications include: Fracture dislocation with ligamentos instability Comminuted intra-articular fractures Post traumatic reconstruction for joint stiffness

Device Story

External fixation system for upper extremity bone/soft tissue conditions. Device consists of implantable bone screws and external fixator frame. Surgeon inserts bone screws through skin/soft tissue into bone; attaches fixator frame to screw shanks. Includes distractor mechanism allowing surgeon to compress or distract bone for optimal treatment. Used in clinical settings for fracture management and joint reconstruction. Provides mechanical stabilization and adjustment capability to facilitate healing and joint mobility.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence based on technological characteristics and design comparison to predicate device.

Technological Characteristics

External fixation system. Materials: Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Pyromet® 718, Ti-6A1-4V ELI. Components: bone screws, fixator frame, bone screw clamps, distractor. Non-sterile. Mechanical operation for bone compression/distraction.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring upper extremity treatment for bone and soft tissue conditions, including fracture dislocation with ligamentous instability, comminuted intra-articular fractures, and post-traumatic reconstruction for joint stiffness.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
