Intended Use

Mpact 3D Metal Augments are intended for cementless use to the bone interface and are affixed to a compatible Medacta Acetabular shell using bone cement in hip replacement surgeries. Mpact 3D Metal Augments are indicated in cases of: • Acetabular dysplasia; • Acetabular fractures; • Revision of previous implants in the presence of insufficient bone quality or seriously altered bone structures.

Device Story

Mpact 3D Metal Augments II are acetabular implants for total hip arthroplasty. Device consists of porous metal augments (Ti6Al4V) and double augment technique screws. Augments are placed cementless against bone and fixed to a compatible Medacta acetabular shell using bone cement. Used in OR by orthopedic surgeons. Can be used as single augment or in double augment configuration. Provides structural support for acetabular reconstruction in revision or complex primary cases. Benefits include improved implant stability and bone defect management.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance validation included design validation and fatigue testing of single and double augment configurations. Biocompatibility and pyrogenicity were assessed per ISO 11737-3, USP <85>, USP <161>, and USP <151>.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Ti6Al4V per ASTM F2924 and ISO 5832-3. Structure: 3D porous net structure via EBM additive manufacturing. Configuration: Single or double augment with technique screws. Sterilization: Provided sterile.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring hip replacement surgery due to acetabular dysplasia, acetabular fractures, or revision of previous implants involving insufficient bone quality or altered bone structures.

Identification

A hip joint metal/polymer/metal semi-constrained porous-coated uncemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across the joint. This generic type of device has a femoral component made of a cobalt-chromium-molybdenum (Co-Cr-Mo) alloy or a titanium-aluminum-vanadium (Ti-6Al-4V) alloy and an acetabular component composed of an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene articulating bearing surface fixed in a metal shell made of Co-Cr-Mo or Ti-6Al-4V. The femoral stem and acetabular shell have a porous coating made of, in the case of Co-Cr-Mo substrates, beads of the same alloy, and in the case of Ti-6Al-4V substrates, fibers of commercially pure titanium or Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The porous coating has a volume porosity between 30 and 70 percent, an average pore size between 100 and 1,000 microns, interconnecting porosity, and a porous coating thickness between 500 and 1,500 microns. The generic type of device has a design to achieve biological fixation to bone without the use of bone cement.

Control of pyrogenicity is validated through the following primary test methods on all identified representative devices as part of their initial validation prior to submission: 1. Quantification of bacterial endotoxin units (EU) on the device surface after final cleaning and sterilization using the bacterial endotoxin test (LAL test) on the basis of a measured colour-producing reaction proportional to the interaction of Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) and endotoxin according to ISO11737-3 and European Pharmacopoeia §2.6.14 (which is harmonized with USP chapter &lt;85&gt; and USP &lt;161&gt;) 2.
