Device Story

Sterilization packaging system consisting of self-seal pouches and reel pouches; used by healthcare workers to enclose metal instruments for steam sterilization. Composed of medical-grade porous paper and plastic film (PP). External chemical ink indicator on paper changes color (blue to ash black) after steam exposure to confirm processing. Devices are not intended for complex instruments or those with lumens/channels. Maximum load 1600g. Used in clinical settings; provides sterile barrier for up to 6 months post-sterilization. Benefits include effective containment and visual verification of sterilization cycle completion.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Bench testing only. Testing included internal pressurization failure resistance (ASTM F1140), microbial ranking (ASTM F1608), chemical indicator performance (ISO 11140-1), accelerated aging (ASTM F1980), seal leak detection (ASTM F1929), and biocompatibility (ISO 10993-5/10). Steam sterilization validation confirmed efficacy using challenge loads (scalers, forceps, probes) with no growth at half-cycle and successful dry-time validation.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Medical porous paper and PP plastic film. Sensing: External chemical ink indicator (blue to ash black). Dimensions: Various sizes/reels. Sterilization: Prevacuum steam (134°C, 4 min). Connectivity: None. Sterilization method: Steam autoclave. Shelf life: 2 years. Sterility maintenance: 6 months.

Indications for Use

Indicated for healthcare workers to enclose metal instruments for steam sterilization. Not for use with complex devices or those containing lumens/channels. Maximum weight capacity 1600g per pouch.
