Intended Use

The PinPointe™ FootLaser™ and the delivery accessories that are used with them are intended for use in surgical procedures involving open, laparoscopic and endoscopic ablation, vaporization, excision, incision, and coagulation of soft tissue in the medical specialties of general and cosmetic dentistry, otolaryngology IENT surgery, and dermatology & plastic surgery including intraoral soft tissue dental surgery, oral maxillo-facial and cosmetic surgery, general surgery, E.N.T. surgery, podiatry, and dermatology and plastic surgery.

Device Story

PinPointe FootLaser is a 1064 nm Nd:YAG solid-state laser system used for soft tissue surgery and onychomycosis treatment. System includes main console with LCD interface, laser emission controls, and footswitch activation; 630-680 nm red aiming beam; and various reusable/disposable delivery devices (handpieces, guide tips, optical fibers). Operated by clinicians in clinical settings. Laser energy is delivered to target tissue via fiber-optic handpieces for ablation, vaporization, or coagulation. For onychomycosis, laser energy targets nail/nail bed to promote clear nail growth. System features remote interlocks and emergency stop for safety. Benefits include precise tissue management and non-invasive/minimally invasive treatment options for various surgical and dermatological conditions.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data was needed for these indications as they are identical to those on the predicate device (K093547).

Technological Characteristics

1064 nm Nd:YAG solid-state laser; 630-680 nm diode aiming beam (<2.5 mW). Power: 6W, 30W, 100W. Pulse duration: 100-3000 µsec. Repetition rate: 5-100 Hz. Output: Pulsed, multi-mode. Delivery via reusable/sterilizable optical fibers and handpieces. Electrical: 90-130/200-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. User interface: LCD screen. Activation: Footswitch.

Indications for Use

Indicated for soft tissue ablation, vaporization, excision, incision, and coagulation in general, cosmetic, dental, ENT, podiatric, and dermatological surgery. Specifically indicated for temporary increase of clear nail in patients with onychomycosis (e.g., Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Candida albicans).

Regulatory Classification

Identification

(1) A carbon dioxide laser for use in general surgery and in dermatology is a laser device intended to cut, destroy, or remove tissue by light energy emitted by carbon dioxide.(2) An argon laser for use in dermatology is a laser device intended to destroy or coagulate tissue by light energy emitted by argon.
