The Synthes Spiked Washer is intended for use in ligament reattachment or fixation, specifically readaptation of torn or avulsed ligaments.
Device Story
The Synthes Spiked Washer is a mechanical orthopedic fixation device used for ligament reattachment or fixation. It features spikes designed to link the washer to the ligament, with integrated flats at the base of each spike to limit penetration and prevent excessive compression. The device is available in multiple sizes (8.0 mm or 13.5 mm outer diameter) with varying spike counts (6 or 8 spikes). It is intended for use by surgeons in clinical settings to facilitate the readaptation of torn or avulsed ligaments. The device provides a stable mechanical interface to secure ligamentous tissue during the healing process.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided; bench testing only.
Technological Characteristics
Material: Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with 6% barium sulfate. Dimensions: 8.0 mm OD/3.2 mm ID (6 spikes) and 13.5 mm OD/4.0 mm ID or 6.0 mm ID (8 spikes). Mechanical fixation via spikes with depth-limiting flats.
Indications for Use

Regulatory Classification
Identification
Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
