Intended Use

The Siemens syngo Volume Perfusion-CT Body software package with extended functionality has been designed to evaluate perfusion of organs and tumors. The software can calculate blood flow, blood volume, mean transit time and permeability from sets of images reconstructed from dynamic CT data acquired after the injection of contrast media. The package also allows the separate calculation of the arterial and portal venous component of hepatic perfusion. It supports evaluation of regions of interest and the visual inspection of time density curves. A potential application is the characterization of tumors by analysing the differences of perfusion parameters to normal tissue. Determination of the change of perfusion parameters during the course of treatment may be helpful in therapy monitoring.

Device Story

Post-processing software for Intel-based PCs; processes dynamic CT image data acquired from Siemens SOMATOM scanners (e.g., Definition, Sensation 64) following contrast media injection. Software calculates blood flow, blood volume, mean transit time, and permeability; enables separate calculation of arterial and portal venous hepatic perfusion components. Supports region-of-interest (ROI) evaluation and time-density curve visualization. Used by clinicians to characterize tumors via perfusion parameter analysis vs. normal tissue and to monitor treatment response. Benefits include quantitative assessment of tissue perfusion to aid clinical decision-making in oncology and therapy management.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided. Safety and effectiveness supported by hazard analysis, software verification, and validation testing.

Technological Characteristics

Post-processing software package; runs on Intel-based PC platform. Inputs: dynamic CT image data. Outputs: perfusion maps (blood flow, blood volume, mean transit time, permeability), time-density curves. Connectivity: integrates with SOMATOM CT scanner data. Software-based evaluation of contrast-enhanced dynamic CT.

Indications for Use

Indicated for the evaluation of organ and tumor perfusion in patients undergoing dynamic CT imaging with contrast media. Used for characterization of tumors and therapy monitoring by analyzing perfusion parameters.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A computed tomography x-ray system is a diagnostic x-ray system intended to produce cross-sectional images of the body by computer reconstruction of x-ray transmission data from the same axial plane taken at different angles. This generic type of device may include signal analysis and display equipment, patient and equipment supports, component parts, and accessories.

It is a package containing evaluation software that supports the evaluation of Dynamic CT data gathered after the injection of a compact bolus of contrast media, where the contrast media acts as a pure intravascular tracer. The Siemens syngo Volume Perfusion-CT Body software package with extended functionality has been designed to evaluate perfusion of organs and tumors.
