Intended Use

The Nio 3MP-21" is intended to be used in displaying and viewing digital images for review by trained medical practitioners. These devices must not be used in primary image diagnosis in mammography.

Device Story

Nio 3MP-21" is a medical display system comprising a 21-inch grayscale LCD (E-3621), a high-resolution display controller board (BarcoMed Nio), and NioWatch software. The system receives digital image data from a PACS workstation; the controller board processes signals via an 8-bit in, 10-bit out lookup table to provide 256 simultaneous shades of gray. NioWatch software enables display calibration, test pattern generation, and optimization for DICOM-compliant viewing. Used in clinical settings by trained medical practitioners for image review; does not perform primary diagnosis for mammography. The system supports landscape or portrait orientations. It does not contact patients or control life-sustaining equipment.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. No clinical data provided.

Technological Characteristics

21-inch grayscale LCD display (E-3621) with 2048x1536 resolution. Includes 10-bit display controller board with 8-bit in/10-bit out lookup table. Features backlight sensor. NioWatch software for calibration and DICOM-compliant viewing. Non-contact device.

Indications for Use

Indicated for display and review of digital medical images by trained medical practitioners. Contraindicated for primary image diagnosis in mammography.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A medical image management and processing system is a device that provides one or more capabilities relating to the review and digital processing of medical images for the purposes of interpretation by a trained practitioner of disease detection, diagnosis, or patient management. The software components may provide advanced or complex image processing functions for image manipulation, enhancement, or quantification that are intended for use in the interpretation and analysis of medical images. Advanced image manipulation functions may include image segmentation, multimodality image registration, or 3D visualization. Complex quantitative functions may include semi-automated measurements or time-series measurements.

Special Controls

*Classification.* Class II (special controls; voluntary standards—Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Std., Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) Std., Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Test Pattern).
