Device Story
AxSOS™ Locking Plate System consists of metallic bone plates, screws, and inserts for internal fracture fixation and osteotomy stabilization. System components are surgically implanted by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings. Device provides mechanical support to bone fragments to facilitate healing. This submission expands the indication for specific components of the previously cleared Stryker Plating System (K060514) to include pediatric use. No changes to design, materials, or manufacturing processes were made. Clinical benefit is derived from the mechanical stabilization of long bone and small fragment fractures in both adult and pediatric populations.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data. Substantial equivalence supported by bench testing, specifically compression fatigue testing to evaluate fatigue resistance for pediatric applications.
Technological Characteristics
Metallic bone fixation system comprising plates, screws, and inserts. Materials and design are identical to the predicate Stryker Locked Plating System (K060514).
Indications for Use
Indicated for internal fixation, stabilization, and support of fractures and bone fixation after osteotomies in adult and pediatric patients. Specific anatomical sites include radius, ulna, distal tibia, fibula, distal humerus, clavicle, femur, pelvis, metatarsals, and metacarpals, depending on the specific plate/screw system used.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.

#### Description:
This Traditional 510(k) submission is being supplied to the U.S. FDA to provide authorization to add the pediatric indication to a specific subset of plates, screws and inserts of the previously cleared Stryker Plating System (K060514). The components from the previously cleared system, some of which carry the pediatric indication, will make-up the system to be marketed as the AxSOS™ Locking Plate System. The indications for use will clarify which components will include the pediatric indication.

### Non-Clinical Testing:
Non-clinical laboratory testing was performed for the subject plates, screws and inserts to determine substantial equivalence. As there are no additional design, process, material or performance characteristic changes, no general tests for verification and validation are necessary. However, an additional compression fatigue testing was conducted for the subject plates, screws and insert to evaluate the fatigue resistance in long-term pediatric use. The testing demonstrated that the AxSOS™ Locking Plate Systems are substantially equivalent to devices currently cleared for market with pediatric indications.
#### Clinical Testing:
Clinical testing was not required for this submission.
#### Conclusion:
The AxSOS™ Locking Plate System is substantially equivalent to the predicate devices identified in this premarket notification.
