Intended Use

The WishBone Medical Guided Growth System is designed for the express and sole purpose of redirecting the angle of growth of long bone(s). This is useful for gradually correcting angular deformities in growing children. Specific conditions/diseases for which the device will be indicated include: valus or flexion, extension deformities of the knee (femur and/or tibia), valgus, varus or plantar flexion deformities of the ankle, valgus or varus deformities of the elbow (humerus), radial or ulnar deviation, flexion or extension deformities of the wrist (radius).

Device Story

Guided growth system for pediatric orthopedic correction; redirects long bone growth to treat angular deformities. Implants (plates and screws) surgically attached to bone; function via guided growth principle. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical/surgical settings. Output is physical mechanical constraint on bone growth; enables gradual deformity correction. Benefits patient by avoiding more invasive corrective procedures.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence supported by non-clinical engineering analysis and cleaning/endotoxin testing.

Technological Characteristics

Metallic bone fixation plates and screws. Materials: 316-stainless steel (ASTM F138) and Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy (ASTM F136). Mechanical fixation device. Sterilization methods consistent with predicate devices.

Indications for Use

Indicated for growing children with angular deformities of long bones, including knee (valgus, varus, flexion, extension), ankle (valgus, varus, plantar flexion), elbow (valgus, varus), and wrist (radial/ulnar deviation, flexion, extension).

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
