Intended Use
The TL-HEX System is intended for limb lengthening by metaphyseal distractions, fixation of open and closed fractures, treatment of non-union or pseudoarthrosis of long bones and correction of bony or soft tissue defects or deformities. The TL-HEX System is intended for limb lengthening by metaphyseal distractions, fixation of open and closed fractures, treatment of non-union or pseudoarthrosis of long bones and correction of bony or soft tissue defects or deformities.
Device Story
Multilateral external fixation system; utilizes aluminum rings, double row footplates, adjustable struts, and stainless steel instrumentation (hex drivers, wrenches, pliers) with implantable half pins and wires. Used for limb lengthening, fracture fixation, and deformity correction. Includes web-based software to assist physicians in creating patient-specific strut adjustment schedules. Physician operates system in clinical setting; software output guides manual adjustment of six struts to achieve desired bone/tissue alignment. Benefits include precise, controlled correction of complex orthopedic conditions.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data was needed to support safety and effectiveness. Bench testing only; software verification and validation performed per FDA guidance.
Indicated for adults and pediatric subgroups (excluding newborns) for: post-traumatic joint contracture with loss of range of motion; fractures/disease causing joint contractures or loss of range of motion; fractures requiring distraction; open and closed fracture fixation; pseudoarthrosis of long bones; limb lengthening by epiphyseal or metaphyseal distraction; correction of bony or soft tissue deformities/defects; joint arthrodesis; and infected fractures or non-unions.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
