Intended Use

The World Knee replacement system is indicated for cemented fixation with bone cement (PMMA) only.

Device Story

World Knee Total Knee System is a range extension of previously cleared knee prostheses. Components include titanium tibial baseplates and modified meniscal inserts (posterior stabilized or cruciate retaining variants). Meniscal inserts are manufactured from UHMWPE. Device is intended for use by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings for total knee arthroplasty. System requires cemented fixation using PMMA bone cement. Prosthesis replaces damaged joint surfaces to restore function and reduce pain in patients with degenerative joint disease or deformity. Surgeons select appropriate components based on patient anatomy and bone stock to achieve stable joint reconstruction.

No clinical data. Bench testing only. Testing included modular component interlock strength (ASTM F1814), modular component assembly (ASTM F1814), tibial plate fatigue strength (ASTM F1800), and endotoxin testing (AAMI ST72).

A knee joint patellofemorotibial polymer/metal/polymer semi-constrained cemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a knee joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that have a femoral component made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, and a tibial component or components and a retropatellar resurfacing component made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. This generic type of device is limited to those prostheses intended for use with bone cement (§ 888.3027).
