Intended Use

The Arthrotek® Meniscal Hybrid Device is indicated for the repair of vertical longitudinal full thickness tears (i.e. bucket-handle) in the red-red and red-white zones. These devices are not to be used for meniscal tears in the avascular zone of the meniscus.

Device Story

Arthrotek Meniscal Hybrid Device; meniscal repair fastener. Components: two toggle anchors (7mm length, beveled tips, suture eyelets) connected by two suture loops; one loop features sliding knot. Material: Lactosorb (bio-resorbable PLLA/PGA copolymer). Used by surgeons in clinical/OR settings for soft tissue fixation. Device functions as mechanical fastener to secure meniscal tears; provides pullout strength comparable to predicate devices. Benefits patient by facilitating meniscal healing through secure tissue approximation.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence supported by bench testing (pullout strength) comparing subject device to predicate.

Technological Characteristics

Bio-resorbable PLLA/PGA copolymer (Lactosorb). Toggle anchor design with suture eyelets and sliding knot. Mechanical fixation principle. Dimensions: 7mm anchor length.

Indications for Use

Indicated for repair of vertical longitudinal full-thickness (bucket-handle) meniscal tears in red-red and red-white zones. Contraindicated for tears in the avascular zone.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
