Intended Use

The dynaMX™ Compression Plate is intended for fixation of small bones and small fragments, osteotomies, arthrodeses, replantations, and reconstructions of small bones and small fragments.

Device Story

The dynaMX™ Compression Plate is a metallic bone fixation implant designed for small bone surgery. Fabricated from biocompatible Nitinol, the device features a bridge designed for superelastic properties at room temperature to provide compression. It is used by surgeons in clinical settings for fixation of small fragments, osteotomies, arthrodeses, replantations, and reconstructions. The device is supplied sterile with associated instruments for implantation. It is secured using locking screws. The device functions by providing mechanical stabilization and compression to bone fragments, facilitating healing and reconstruction. It is intended to be substantially equivalent to existing metallic bone fixation plates.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Studies included elastic static bending, bending fatigue, cyclic potentiodynamic polarization corrosion, galvanic corrosion, compressive force performance, transformation temperature determination, and package seal strength. Locking screws were tested for insertion/removal torque, torsional strength, and pullout strength.

Technological Characteristics

Material: Nitinol (biocompatible). Principle: Superelastic compression plate. Form factor: Small bone fixation plate with locking screws. Processing: Polished and chemically passivated. Sterilization: Provided sterile. Connectivity: None (mechanical device).

Indications for Use

Indicated for fixation of small bones and small fragments, osteotomies, arthrodeses, replantations, and reconstructions in patients requiring small bone stabilization.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
