Indications for Use
The aap Radius Set 2.5 is indicated for the fixation of intra- and extra-articular fractures and osteotomies of the distal radius.
Device Story
The aap Radius Set 2.5 is a metallic bone fixation system consisting of various plates (Extra-articular, Juxta-articular, L-Plate, Straight, T-Plate) and self-tapping cortical screws. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings for internal fixation of distal radius fractures and osteotomies. Plates are fixed to bone fragments using screws; locking screws create an internal fixator construct. The device provides mechanical stability to bone fragments to facilitate healing. It is a manual surgical implant system.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Mechanical testing included fatigue implant tests with progressive loadings representing worst-case clinical scenarios and mechanical testing of screws according to ASTM F543-07.
Technological Characteristics
Plates: cp Titanium (ASTM F67 or ISO 5832-2). Screws: Ti6Al4V (ASTM F136 or ISO 5832-3). System includes various plate geometries and self-tapping cortical screws. Mechanical fixation principle. No software or electronic components.
Indications for Use
Indicated for fixation of intra- and extra-articular fractures and osteotomies of the distal radius in adult patients.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
