Intended Use
The Integra Vu aPOD-L. Intervertebral Body Fusion Device is indicated for use as an adjunct to fusion in patients with degenerative disc disease (DDD) at one or two contiguous levels from L2 to S1. These DDD patients may also have up to Grade 1 spondylolisthesis at the involved level(s). The device is to be packed with autogenous bone graft (i.e. autograft). The Integra Vu aPOD-L Intervertebral Body Fusion Device is intended for use with supplemental fixation that is in addition to the integrated buttress spin plate, such as a pedicle screw system or anterior plate. Degenerative disc disease is defined as back pain of discogenic origin, with degeneration of the disc confirmed by history and radiographic studies. These patients should be skeletally mature and have had at least six (6) months of nonoperative treatment.
Device Story
Spinal fusion cage system designed for intervertebral body fusion; includes cages, optional internal buttress plates, and implantation instrumentation. Cages feature teeth for endplate engagement to resist rotation/migration and an open central channel for autogenous bone graft to facilitate bony in-growth. Used in conjunction with supplemental fixation (e.g., pedicle screws or anterior plates). Implanted by surgeons in a clinical/OR setting. Provides structural support to the disc space to promote fusion in patients with degenerative disc disease.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical or animal testing performed. Substantial equivalence supported by bench testing including static axial compression, static compress-shear, dynamic axial compression, static subsidence, and expulsion testing per ASTM F2077 and ASTM F2267.
Technological Characteristics
Materials: PEEK-OPTIMA LT-1 (ASTM F2026), Titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V ELI (ASTM F136), Tantalum (ASTM F560). Features: Lordotic angled geometries, teeth for endplate engagement, radiographic markers, open central channel for bone graft. Dimensions: 8-16mm height, 44-64mm length, 18-23mm width.
Indications for Use
Indicated for skeletally mature patients with degenerative disc disease (DDD) at one or two contiguous levels from L2 to S1, including those with up to Grade 1 spondylolisthesis, who have failed at least 6 months of nonoperative treatment.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
An intervertebral body fusion device is an implanted single or multiple component spinal device made from a variety of materials, including titanium and polymers. The device is inserted into the intervertebral body space of the cervical or lumbosacral spine, and is intended for intervertebral body fusion.
Special Controls
*Classification.* (1) Class II (special controls) for intervertebral body fusion devices that contain bone grafting material. The special control is the FDA guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Intervertebral Body Fusion Device.” See § 888.1(e) for the availability of this guidance document.(2) Class III (premarket approval) for intervertebral body fusion devices that include any therapeutic biologic (e.g., bone morphogenic protein). Intervertebral body fusion devices that contain any therapeutic biologic require premarket approval.
(c)
*Date premarket approval application (PMA) or notice of product development protocol (PDP) is required.* Devices described in paragraph (b)(2) of this section shall have an approved PMA or a declared completed PDP in effect before being placed in commercial distribution.

#### Device Description:
510(k) Summary
The Integra Vu aPOD-L. Intervertebral Body Fusion Device consists of spinal fusion cages, optional internal buttress plates, as well as instrumentation designed specifically for the implantation of these devices. The spinal fusion cages are offered in heights of 8-16mm, lengths of 44-64mm, widths of 18mm and 23mm, and lordotic angled geometries to accommodate variations in patient anatomy. The cages include teeth on the top and bottom surfaces to engage with the superior and inferior end plates of neighboring vertebral bodies to resist rotation and migration. The cages contain an open central channel for receiving bone graft to allow for bony in-growth in and around the implant. The cages can be used in combination with an optional titanium spin plate and contain radiographic markers. The devices are manufactured from Polyetheretherketone (PEEK-OPTIMA LT-1) per ASTM F2026, Titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) per ASTM F136, and Tantalum per ASTM F560.
