Intended Use

The PROCOTYL-E Acetabular System is indicated for use in total hip arthroplasty for reduction or relief of pain and/or improved hip function in skeletally mature patients with the following conditions: 1. non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease such as osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis, ankylosis, protrusio acetabuli, and painful hip dysplasia; 2. inflammatory degenerative joint disease such as rheumatoid arthritis; 3. correction of functional deformity; 4. revision procedures where other treatments or devices have failed; and, 5. treatment of nonunion, femoral neck and trochanteric fractures of the proximal femur with head involvement that are unmanageable using other techniques. The PROCOTYL-E Acetabular System consists of single use components that are intended to accommodate for bone loss. This system is to be used in conjunction with associated WMT polyethylene and metal Acetabular liners articulating with associated WMT metal and ceramic femoral heads as part of an uncemented total hip arthroplasty.

Device Story

PROCOTYL-E Acetabular System; metal acetabular shells, plates, and hooks; designed for uncemented total hip arthroplasty. Features oblong dual hemispherical outer geometry with hemispherical offset to accommodate bone loss; includes eccentric design for screw fixation. Used in conjunction with WMT polyethylene/metal liners and WMT metal/ceramic femoral heads. Implanted by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings to restore hip function and reduce pain in patients with degenerative joint disease or fractures. Provides stable anchorage via titanium alloy plates and hooks.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence supported by materials data and bench testing results.

Technological Characteristics

Components: metal acetabular shells, plates, and hooks. Material: titanium alloy. Design: oblong dual hemispherical outer geometry with hemispherical offset. Fixation: uncemented, porous-coated. Intended for use with WMT polyethylene/metal liners and WMT metal/ceramic femoral heads.

Indications for Use

Indicated for skeletally mature patients requiring total hip arthroplasty for pain relief or improved function due to non-inflammatory/inflammatory degenerative joint disease (e.g., osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, ankylosis, protrusio acetabuli, hip dysplasia), functional deformity, revision of failed devices, or proximal femur fractures (nonunion, femoral neck, trochanteric) unmanageable by other techniques.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A hip joint metal/metal semi-constrained, with an uncemented acetabular component, prosthesis is a two-part device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that consist of a femoral and an acetabular component, both made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum. The femoral component is intended to be fixed with bone cement. The acetabular component is intended for use without bone cement (§ 888.3027).
