Intended Use

Device Story

EMPOWR Universal Tibial Baseplate is a knee system extension providing modular tibial baseplate implants, stem extensions, and augments. Device used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings for total knee arthroplasty. System features modular stem plugs, threaded distal connections for augments, and female tapers for posterior stabilized tibial inserts. Augments are stackable and reversible for medial/lateral compartment use, featuring pockets/slots for cement flow. Device replaces damaged joint surfaces to restore function and reduce pain. Surgeon selects components based on patient anatomy and surgical requirements; implants are typically cemented.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data performed. Substantial equivalence supported by non-clinical bench testing, including baseplate/stem extension fatigue testing, finite element analysis (FEA) of baseplate strength, augment screw characterization, locking mechanism disassembly testing, and bacterial endotoxin assessment.

A knee joint patellofemorotibial polymer/metal/polymer semi-constrained cemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a knee joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that have a femoral component made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, and a tibial component or components and a retropatellar resurfacing component made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. This generic type of device is limited to those prostheses intended for use with bone cement (§ 888.3027).
