Intended Use

The VALOR® Ankle Fusion Nail System is intended to facilitate tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis to treat severe foot/ankle deformity, arthritis, instability, and skeletal defects after tumor resection. These include Neuro-osteoarthropathy (Charcot's Foot), Avascular Necrosis of the talus, failed joint replacement, failed ankle fusion, distal tibia fracture nonunions. Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Pseudoarthrosis.

Device Story

The VALOR® Ankle Fusion Nail System - Extended Screw Lengths is a line extension of an existing intramedullary fixation system. The device consists of titanium alloy nails and screws used to facilitate tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis. It is intended for surgical use by orthopedic surgeons in a clinical or hospital setting. The device provides mechanical stabilization of the ankle joint to promote fusion. The extended screw lengths allow for surgeon flexibility in accommodating varying patient anatomy. The system is purely mechanical; it does not involve software, algorithms, or electronic components.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence supported by bench fatigue testing.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Titanium alloy. Form factor: Intramedullary nail and screw system with extended lengths. Energy source: None (mechanical). Sterilization: Not specified. Connectivity: None. Software: None.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis due to severe foot/ankle deformity, arthritis, instability, skeletal defects post-tumor resection, Charcot's foot, avascular necrosis of the talus, failed joint replacement, failed ankle fusion, distal tibia fracture nonunions, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or pseudoarthrosis.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An intramedullary fixation rod is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a rod made of alloys such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel. It is inserted into the medullary (bone marrow) canal of long bones for the fixation of fractures.
