Intended Use

EDGE Orthopaedics' REDUCE® Fracture Plating System is intended for use in stabilization and fixation of fresh fractures, revision procedures, joint fusion, and reconstruction of small bones of the hand, feet, wrist, ankles, fingers and toes. The plates are available for use with EDGE Orthopaedics locking and non-locking bone screws. Plates and screws are intended for single use only. Screws are not intended for use in the spine.

Device Story

The REDUCE® Fracture Plating System is a bone fixation device consisting of titanium alloy plates (H and Box configurations) and bone screws. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings for stabilization, fixation, and reconstruction of small bones in extremities. The system is supported by instrumentation (depth gauges, screwdrivers, reamers, plate benders) from the RIVAL Instrument Tray. The device provides mechanical stability to bone segments to facilitate healing. It is a line extension of the previously cleared REDUCE system, maintaining identical materials and design principles.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data was used to determine substantial equivalence. Safety and effectiveness were supported by bench testing, specifically CAD and mathematical analysis.

Technological Characteristics

Titanium alloy bone plates and screws. System includes H-plates and Box plates. Compatible with locking and non-locking bone screws. Manual instrumentation provided for insertion. Sterile packaging. No software or electronic components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for stabilization and fixation of fresh fractures, revision procedures, joint fusion, and reconstruction of small bones of the hand, feet, wrist, ankles, fingers, and toes. Contraindicated for use in the spine.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
