Intended Use

The 2.7mm LCP Ulna Osteotomy System is indicated for fixation of fractures, osteotomies, nonunions, replantations, and fusions of small bones and small bone fragments, including osteopenic bone in the ulna. The 2.7mm LCP Ulna Osteotomy System is indicated for use in both adults and adolescents (12-21 years) in which growth plates have fused or in which growth plates will not be crossed by screw fixation.

Device Story

System consists of 6-hole and 8-hole plates with associated instrumentation for transverse and oblique osteotomy cuts, plate placement, and fixation. Materials include titanium alloy and stainless steel. Used by surgeons in clinical settings for bone stabilization. Provides mechanical support for bone healing; facilitates fixation of fractures, osteotomies, nonunions, replantations, and fusions. Benefits patient by stabilizing bone segments to promote union.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only; no clinical data provided. Evidence includes static and dynamic mechanical testing and comparative geometric/material strength analysis.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: titanium alloy and stainless steel. Components: 6-hole and 8-hole plates, surgical instrumentation. Design: LCP (Locking Compression Plate) system. Sterilization: available sterile and non-sterile.

Indications for Use

Indicated for fixation of fractures, osteotomies, nonunions, replantations, and fusions of small bones/fragments, including osteopenic bone in the ulna. Population: adults and adolescents (12-21 years) with fused growth plates or where growth plates are not crossed by screw fixation.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
