Device Story

Opal by Femtex Pull & Snap is an unscented, compact menstrual tampon designed for over-the-counter use. The device consists of a compressed viscose rayon fiber pledget with an inserted 100% cotton withdrawal cord, covered by a nonwoven fiber overwrap. It includes a compact plastic applicator (polyethylene and polypropylene) with a barrel and two-piece plunger to facilitate insertion into the vagina. The device is used by the patient for personal hygiene to absorb menstrual or vaginal discharge. It functions as a passive absorbent barrier. The device is provided non-sterile.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Testing included Syngyna absorbency per 21 CFR 801.430 (all absorbencies met requirements), withdrawal cord attachment strength per AS/NZS 2869:1998 (all met ≥ 22.4N individual and ≥ 28N average requirements), fiber shedding (comparable to predicate), and extractables testing per USP 1663 (no safety concerns).

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Viscose rayon (pledget), 100% cotton (cord), PE/PET nonwoven overwrap, polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) applicator.
