Indications for Use

Cardia-Cath catheter is used to monitor combined pressure and electrical impedance (volume) in the cardiovascular system.

Device Story

Cardia-Cath is a disposable, sterile pressure-volume catheter transducer. It features one or two pressure transducers and a series of electrodes along its distal segment. The device is inserted into the cardiovascular system to monitor pressure and electrical impedance (volume). It terminates in a single electrical connection at the proximal end. The device is used by clinicians to obtain cardiovascular data. It is substantially equivalent to the Millar SPC-550 model, with modifications to the connector configuration, electrode material, and mounting methodology. Verification testing confirmed safety and efficacy, including biocompatibility, sterility, and transportation integrity.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Testing included biocompatibility (cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation, systemic toxicity, haemocompatibility, thrombogenicity in dogs), sterility validation (EtO-Overkill), packaging integrity (ASTM D4169-08), and accelerated aging (ASTM F1980-07). All tests met acceptance criteria.

Technological Characteristics

Disposable, sterile pressure-volume catheter transducer. Features pressure transducers and electrodes for impedance measurement. Sterilization via EtO (ANSI/AAMI ISO 11135). Packaging uses Tyvek. Biocompatibility per ISO 10993-1. Transportation testing per ASTM D4169-08. Accelerated aging per ASTM F1980-07.

Indications for Use

Indicated for monitoring combined pressure and electrical impedance (volume) in the cardiovascular system.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A catheter tip pressure transducer is a device incorporated into the distal end of a catheter. When placed in the bloodstream, its mechanical or electrical properties change in relation to changes in blood pressure. These changes are transmitted to accessory equipment for processing.
