Intended Use

The CAS 740 Series Vital Signs Monitor is indicated for use for non-invasive monitoring of blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse and temperature of adult, pediatric and neonatal patients, in the care of health professionals.

Device Story

The CAS 740 Series Monitor is a portable, multi-parameter vital signs monitor designed for spot-checking or continuous monitoring in clinical settings (hospitals, clinics, emergency vehicles). It processes inputs from non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) cuffs (oscillometric technology), pulse oximetry sensors (Masimo, Nellcor, or Nonin modules), and predictive temperature probes (Welch Allyn SureTemp). The device features an ND Plus NIBP module with a secondary safety processor. Outputs are displayed on the unit for clinician review to support clinical decision-making. The device is powered by AC mains or a rechargeable NiMH battery. It includes wireless infrared printer communication and is designed for various mounting schemes. It replaces previous CAS 9303/9001/9002 models with improved portability, battery management, and human factors design.

Clinical Evidence

Clinical studies were conducted in accordance with AAMI SP10:2002 for non-invasive blood pressure measurement. Results met the requirements of the standard. Bench testing demonstrated that the ND Plus NIBP module performance is equivalent to the predicate NB module.

Technological Characteristics

Multi-parameter monitor; ABS injection-molded case. Parameters: Oscillometric NIBP (CAS ND Plus module), Pulse Oximetry (Masimo/Nellcor/Nonin OEM modules), Predictive Temperature (Welch Allyn SureTemp). Power: 100-240 VAC or 7.2V NiMH rechargeable battery. Connectivity: RS-232, wireless infrared printer. Standards: UL2601-1, IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-30, IEC 60601-2-49, AAMI SP10:2002. Software: Microprocessor-based control with secondary safety processor.

Indications for Use

Indicated for non-invasive monitoring of blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse, and temperature in adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients by healthcare professionals.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

The arrhythmia detector and alarm device monitors an electrocardiogram and is designed to produce a visible or audible signal or alarm when atrial or ventricular arrhythmia, such as premature contraction or ventricular fibrillation, occurs.

Special Controls

*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Arrhythmia Detector and Alarm” will serve as the special control. See § 870.1 for the availability of this guidance document.

The 740 are primarily a repackaging of these monitors. The primary parameter is non-invasive blood pressure, which is included in all models (see below). Blood pressure measurement is based on oscillometric technology. The additional two parameters are pulse oximetry and temperature. A purchaser has pulse oximetry choices that include modules manufactured by Masimo, Nellcor or Nonin. The temperature parameter utilizes predictive technology from SureTemp™ (Welch Allyn Inc.) The monitor is a rugged, portable and lightweight unit widely adaptable for many applications and mounting schemes. Used for spot-checking or continuous monitoring, features include an easily replaccable Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable battery pack, wireless infrared printer communication, and many more.
