Intended Use

The Confida™ Adaptive Sheath is intended to provide a conduit through the iliofemoral vessels for the insertion of diagnostic or interventional devices used during cardiovascular procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Device Story

Confida Adaptive Sheath is single-use, disposable, hydrophilically coated introducer sheath; provides flexible, hemostatic conduit for insertion of diagnostic/interventional devices (up to 18 Fr) into iliofemoral vasculature. Comprised of dilator with tapered distal tip for atraumatic tracking and sheath with hemostatic valve assembly to minimize blood loss. Sideport extension with three-way valve allows flushing. Used in hospital/healthcare facilities by professionals. Sheath body temporarily expands to accommodate devices; facilitates TAVR procedures. Benefits include reduced insertion/withdrawal forces via hydrophilic coating and minimized blood loss during procedure.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Evaluations included system pressure/leak/hemostasis, dimensional measurements, tensile strength, coating integrity, particulate testing, kink resistance, device/delivery system interaction forces, and simulated use (system recovery/functionality). Biocompatibility testing performed per ISO 10993-1:2009 (cytotoxicity, sensitization, intracutaneous reactivity, systemic toxicity, material-mediated pyrogen, hemolysis, PTT coagulation, complement activation, thromboresistance, and chemical characterization). In vivo design validation performed in an animal model. All acceptance criteria met.

Technological Characteristics

Hydrophilically coated sheath with hemostatic valve assembly; dilator with tapered tip. Accommodates 0.035in guidewires and up to 18 Fr devices. Sterilized by Ethylene Oxide (EtO) to SAL 10^-6. Surgically invasive, short-term use (<24 hours). Biocompatibility per ISO 10993-1:2009. Hemolysis and PTT testing per ASTM standards.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures, including TAVR, requiring iliofemoral vessel access for diagnostic or interventional device insertion. Contraindicated for unheparinized patients and patients with intolerance to anticoagulation therapy.
