Intended Use
The intended use of the Spacelabs Medical Ultraview™ Waveform Pager System is to interface with the Spacelabs monitoring network in order to provide a secondary means of annunciating and displaying patient alarm information to mobile healthcare providers. The device is indicated for use in real-time monitoring of routine patient status and alarm events. The pager is intended to serve as a parallel, redundant mechanism to inform the clinical staff of patient events. The Ultraview™ Waveform Pager System is intended for use as a secondary alarm in any hospital environment currently using or intending to use a Spacelabs patient-monitoring network. The Waveform Paging System supplements the primary patient-monitoring system by providing a forwarding mechanism for annunciating and displaying patient alarm events and the critical information associated with the events - including parameter values and waveforms, typically within 4 - 8 seconds of an alarm event on the patient monitor. The pager provides an audio or vibrating alert along with a series of displays showing patient identification, alarm parameters, and up to a 12-second waveform snapshot. The Spacelabs Medical Ultraview™ Waveform Pager System is a secondary alarm. It does not replace the primary alarm function on the monitor.
Device Story
System interfaces with Spacelabs patient-monitoring network to provide secondary alarm notification to mobile caregivers. Components include server (collects/formats network data), transmitter (broadcasts data), and receiver (graphical pager). Upon alarm event at bedside monitor, system transmits patient ID, alarm parameters, and up to 12-second waveform snapshot to pager within 4-8 seconds. Pager provides audio/vibrating alerts. Administration module allows patient-to-caregiver assignment via network workstations. System supplements primary monitoring; does not replace bedside alarms or clinical judgment. Benefits include increased caregiver mobility while maintaining awareness of patient status.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. System performance verified through extensive safety and functional testing to ensure compliance with requirements and specifications.
Technological Characteristics
System consists of server, transmitter, and receiver (lightweight graphical pager). Operates via Spacelabs monitoring network integration. Uses standard paging technology for data transmission. Features high-resolution display and 12-second waveform snapshot capability.
Indications for Use
Indicated for real-time monitoring of routine patient status and alarm events in hospital environments using Spacelabs patient-monitoring networks. Intended as a secondary, parallel, redundant alarm notification system for mobile healthcare providers. Not for use as a replacement for primary bedside/remote alarm systems or clinical judgment.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A cardiac monitor (including cardiotachometer and rate alarm) is a device used to measure the heart rate from an analog signal produced by an electrocardiograph, vectorcardiograph, or blood pressure monitor. This device may sound an alarm when the heart rate falls outside preset upper and lower limits.
