Device Story
The C-Reactive Protein (CRP) assay is an in vitro diagnostic test used on the AEROSET™ System. It measures CRP concentration in human serum and plasma samples. The principle of operation is immunoturbidimetric: antigen in the sample binds to specific antibodies in the reagent, forming immune complexes. These complexes increase light scattering, which is measured via turbidity at 340 nm and 700 nm. The resulting measurement correlates to CRP concentration. The device is intended for use by clinical laboratory professionals. Healthcare providers use the quantitative output to assess the extent of tissue injury in patients. The assay provides a diagnostic tool for evaluating inflammatory states or tissue damage.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Method comparison study against the predicate (Hitachi 717 Analyzer) showed a correlation coefficient of 0.9963, slope of 1.093, and Y-intercept of 0.203 mg/dL. Precision studies (within-run, between-run, between-day) using two control levels yielded total %CVs of 4.5% and 2.8%. The assay range is up to 12.68 mg/dL with a limit of quantitation (sensitivity) of 0.263 mg/dL.

We have reviewed your Section 510(k) notification of intent to market the device referenced above and we have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration.
