Indications for Use

Implants from the APTUS Clavicle System are indicated for the treatment of fractures and osteotomies of the clavicle, and for dislocations of the acromioclavicular joint. Clavicle plates - fractures, osteotomies, malunions and non-unions of the clavicle Clavicle Hook Plates - fixation of lateral clavicle fractures and dislocations of the acromioclavicular joint.

Device Story

APTUS Clavicle System 2.8 is an expansion of the existing Medartis APTUS Clavicle System; consists of metallic clavicle plates and hook plates; available in sterile and non-sterile configurations. Designed for use with TriLock locking screws and cortical screws to provide bone fixation. Used by surgeons in clinical settings for orthopedic trauma repair. System includes device-specific and general surgical instruments. Output is the mechanical stabilization of bone segments to facilitate healing of fractures, osteotomies, or joint dislocations.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Bench testing only. Construct testing performed under worst-case test set-ups to compare against predicate devices (K192984, K111540, K061753). Endotoxin testing performed per ANSI/AAMI ST72, USP <85>, and ISO 11737. All performance metrics met acceptance criteria.

Technological Characteristics

Metallic bone fixation plates and screws. Includes TriLock locking and cortical screws. Materials and dimensions are similar to predicate devices. Sterilization via standard methods. No software or electronic components.

Indicated for patients requiring surgical treatment of clavicle fractures, osteotomies, malunions, non-unions, or acromioclavicular joint dislocations. Prescription use only.

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.

You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. They share the same or similar technological characteristics, materials and dimensions. Any differences do not raise new questions regarding safety or effectiveness. Overall, APTUS Clavicle System 2.8 has the following similarities to the predicate devices: - has the same intended use, - uses the same operating principles, - incorporates the same basic designs, - incorporates similar materials. ## Non-Clinical and/or Clinical Tests Summary & Conclusions 21 CFR 807.92(b) Bench testing of the APTUS Clavicle System 2.8 included construct testing under worst-case test set-up to demonstrate substantial equivalence. The subject device APTUS Superior Lateral Plates and APTUS Superior Lateral Shaft Plates does not constitute a new worst case within the predicate device APTUS Clavicle System, previously cleared in K192984. Therefore, the already existing performance data from the predicate device is sufficient to demonstrate safety and performance. The subject device APTUS Superior-Anterior Clavicle Plate included construct testing under worst-case test set-up to demonstrate substantial equivalence with predicate device LCP Superior Clavicle Plate 3.5 (DePuy Synthes), previously cleared in K111540. The subject device APTUS Clavicle Hook Plate included construct testing under worst-case test set-up to demonstrate substantial equivalence with predicate device Clavicular Hook Plate 3.5 (DePuy Synthes), previously cleared in K061753. Endotoxin testing is performed using the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) assay in accordance with ANSI/AAMI ST72, USP <85>, and ISO 11737. Their performance has been evaluated against previously cleared predicate devices, which met all acceptance criteria. The new devices fall within the performance and design characteristics of the previously cleared devices, thereby demonstrating the product line is substantially equivalent.
