Intended Use

The StageOne™ Shoulder Cement Spacer Molds are intended to create a temporary hemi-shoulder replacement prosthesis as part of a two-stage revision procedure.

Device Story

Sterile, single-use silicone molds; used by surgeons in clinical settings to create temporary hemi-shoulder prostheses during two-stage revision procedures for septic shoulder infections. Surgeon fills mold with Refobacin® Bone Cement R; cement cures to form temporary implant; implant inserted into humeral medullary canal and glenoidal cavity after removal of infected hardware and debridement. Device acts as spacer to maintain joint space and deliver local antibiotics while systemic therapy addresses infection. Patient must adhere to activity restrictions due to cement material strength limitations. Temporary prosthesis must be explanted within 180 days and replaced with permanent hardware or alternative treatment.

Due to the inherent mechanical limitations of the hemi-shoulder prosthesis material (Refobacin® Bone Cement R), the temporary hemi-shoulder prosthesis is only indicated for patients who will consistently follow activity limitations throughout the implant period.
