Intended Use

The 091 Balloon Guide Catheter is indicated for use in facilitating the insertion and guidance of intravascular catheters into a selected blood vessel in the peripheral and neuro vascular systems. The balloon provides temporary vascular occlusion during these and other angiographic procedures. The Balloon Guide Catheter is also indicated for use as a conduit for Retrieval devices.

Device Story

091 Balloon Guide Catheter is a coaxial-lumen, coil-reinforced, variable stiffness catheter; features compliant polyurethane elastomer balloon at distal end for temporary vascular occlusion; includes radiopaque platinum/iridium marker for fluoroscopic visualization. Used in peripheral and neurovascular systems; operated by physicians in clinical settings (e.g., interventional suites). Device facilitates insertion/guidance of intravascular catheters and acts as conduit for retrieval devices. Physician navigates catheter to target vessel; inflates balloon to achieve flow arrest; performs angiographic or retrieval procedures. Output is physical access and vascular occlusion; enables therapeutic interventions. Supplied sterile, single-use.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence demonstrated via bench testing and in-vitro simulated use studies. Bench testing included design verification (tensile strength, torque, burst, leak, kink resistance, flow arrest, balloon fatigue/compliance) and biocompatibility (cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation, pyrogenicity, hemocompatibility). All tests met predetermined acceptance criteria.

Technological Characteristics

Coaxial-lumen, coil-reinforced catheter. Materials: PTFE, Polyethylene, Pebax, Nylon, Chronoflex, Polyolefin. Balloon: Polyurethane elastomer. Radiopaque marker: Platinum/Iridium.
