Intended Use

Device Story

Activ Fuse is a metallic bone fixation system consisting of plates and screws; used for bone reconstruction, fracture fixation, and arthrodesis of the ankle, distal tibia, talus, and calcaneus. The system features a modular plate design for lateral calcaneal extension. Implants are provided either non-sterile (for professional sterilization) or sterile (via gamma sterilization). The device is used by orthopedic surgeons in a clinical/surgical setting to stabilize bone segments, facilitating healing and fusion. The surgeon selects appropriate plates and screws based on patient anatomy and clinical need; the hardware provides mechanical stability to the bone site during the healing process.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical studies were performed. Substantial equivalence is supported by non-clinical bench testing, including engineering analysis, static and dynamic mechanical testing of plates and screws (torsional and pullout strength), and endotoxin testing.

The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
