Intended Use

The ARIX Ankle System(Fibula) is intended for use in internal fixation of the distal fibula.

Device Story

ARIX Ankle System is a rigid bone fixation system consisting of plates and screws. It is used for internal fixation of the distal fibula. The system includes various configurations of straight and lateral plates, cortical screws, and locking screws. It is intended for use by surgeons in a clinical setting. The device is provided non-sterile and requires autoclave sterilization by the hospital prior to use. The system provides mechanical stabilization of bone fractures to facilitate healing.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical studies were performed. Substantial equivalence is supported by bench testing, including dimension tests, single cycle bending tests, bending fatigue tests (ASTM F382), driving torque tests, axial pull-out tests, and torsion tests (ASTM F543-07).

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Pure Titanium (ASTM F67) and Titanium Alloy Ti-6Al-4V (ASTM F136). Components: Plates and screws (3.5mm diameter, 10-70mm length). Features: Poly-axial locking mechanism. Sterilization: Autoclave (SAL 10^-6). Standards: ASTM F382 (bone plates), ASTM F543-07 (bone screws).

Indications for Use

Indicated for internal fixation of the distal fibula.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
