Intended Use

The Renovis A400 Surgical Hip Replacement System is indicated for patients suffering from: 1. Non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease including osteoarthritis and avascular necrosis: 2. Rheumatoid arthritis; 3. Correction of functional deformity: 4. Treatment of non-union, femoral neck fracture and trochanteric fractures of the proximal femur with head involvement, unmanageable using other techniques; and 5. Revision procedures where other treatment or devices have failed. The Cemented Hip Stem is intended for cemented applications.

Device Story

Renovis Cemented Hip Stem is a metal femoral component for total hip arthroplasty; used with bone cement. Device manufactured from CoCr; includes PMMA distal plug and centralizers. Taper connection compatible with existing Renovis femoral heads (CoCr/ceramic). Implanted by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings to replace diseased or fractured femoral head/neck. Provides structural support for hip joint; restores function; alleviates pain associated with degenerative joint disease or trauma. Device is gamma sterilized.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. No clinical data provided. Performance testing included femoral stem fatigue testing per ISO 7206-4:2010 and femoral neck fatigue testing per ISO 7206-6:1992, demonstrating compliance with endurance properties for stemmed femoral components.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: CoCr (ASTM F799-11) for stems; PMMA (ASTM D5436-13) for distal plugs/centralizers; Stainless Steel (ASTM A564-13) for instruments. Design: Semi-constrained cemented hip prosthesis. Sterilization: Gamma radiation (ISO 11137-2).

Indicated for patients with non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis), rheumatoid arthritis, functional deformity, or proximal femur fractures (non-union, femoral neck, trochanteric) requiring hip replacement, including revision procedures.

A hip joint metal/polymer semi-constrained cemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that have a femoral component made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, and an acetabular resurfacing component made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and is limited to those prostheses intended for use with bone cement (§ 888.3027).
