Device Story

Parcus PEEK CF Push-In Suture Anchors are tapered, barbed fasteners designed for soft tissue-to-bone attachment. Device is inserted into prepared bone holes; barbs provide mechanical fixation. Used by surgeons in orthopedic procedures (shoulder, knee, foot/ankle, elbow, hand/wrist, hip). Input is manual surgical placement; output is secure tissue fixation. Benefits include stable reattachment of ligaments and tendons to bone, facilitating healing. Device is provided sterile.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Pull-out strength testing was performed on the subject device and compared to predicate devices (Parcus V-LoX PEEK CF and Smith & Nephew BioRaptor 2.9). Results demonstrated substantial equivalence in mechanical performance.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyetheretherketone (PEEK CF). Form factor: Tapered, barbed push-in anchors in 3.0mm and 4.5mm diameters. Sterilization: Provided sterile. No software or electronic components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring soft tissue to bone attachment in shoulder, knee, foot/ankle, elbow, hand/wrist, and hip (3.0mm only) procedures, including ligament, tendon, and labral repairs.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.

Elbow Tennis Elbow Repair, Biceps Tendon Reattachment. - Hand/Wrist Scapholunate Ligament Reconstruction, Ulnar or Radial Collateral Ligament Reconstruction, TFCC. Hip Acetabular Labral Repair (3.0mm only) #### Substantial Equivalence Summary: The Parcus PEEK CF Push-In Suture Anchors are similar to the Parcus V-LoX PEEK CF Suture Anchors in that they are made of the same material, manufactured in a similar manner, and have similar indications. While the method of fixation differs, push-in barbs versus threads, it does not raise any new concerns regarding safety and efficacy. The Parcus PEEK CF Push-In Suture Anchors are similar in design to the Smith & Nephew BioRaptor 2.9. Both anchors are barbed and pushed in rather than threaded. Although the BioRaptor is listed as 2.9mm, this is the minor diameter and the actual outer diameter is 3.5mm while the Push-In Suture Anchors come in 3.0mm and 4.5mm outer diameters. Though the material differs, PEEK CF versus a bioabsorbable polymer, it does not raise any new concerns regarding safety and efficacy. Therefore the Parcus PEEK CF Push-In Suture Anchors are substantially equivalent to the predicate devices listed above. Any differences between the Push-In Suture Anchors and the predicate devices are considered minor and do not raise any safety and efficacy concerns. #### Summary Performance Data: The Parcus PEEK CF Push-In Suture Anchors were placed in prepared holes and the pull out strength was measured. Test results were compared to the results for the Parcus V-LoX PEEK CF Suture Anchors as well as the Smith & Nephew BioRaptor 2.9 and demonstrated substantial equivalence. 2 of 2 Page 16 of 222 {2}------------------------------------------------ ## DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES Image /page/2/Picture/1 description: The image shows the logo for the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
