Intended Use

CALTRIX Resorbable Bone Void Filler is indicated bony void or gaps of the skeletal system (i.e., the extremities, spine and pelvis) that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bone structure. These defects may be surgically created osseous defects or created from traumatic injury to the bone. The pellets resorbs and is replaced with new bone during the healing process. When used in the spine, the device is limited to posterolateral fusion procedures only.

Device Story

CALTRIX Resorbable Bone Void Filler consists of high-purity, pharmaceutical-grade calcium sulfate pellets. The device acts as an osteoconductive scaffold to facilitate new bone growth in non-structural bony voids or gaps in the extremities, spine, and pelvis. It is implanted by a surgeon during orthopedic procedures; it is resorbed in approximately 14 weeks and replaced by new bone during the healing process. The device is supplied sterile for single-patient use.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Conformance to ISO 10993 (biological evaluation), ASTM F2224-03 (calcium sulfate specifications), and ANSI/AAMI/ISO 11137 (radiation sterilization).

Technological Characteristics

High-purity pharmaceutical-grade calcium sulfate pellets. Osteoconductive, radiopaque, bio-degradable. Sterilized via radiation. Conforms to ASTM F2224-03.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients with bony voids or gaps in the skeletal system (extremities, spine, pelvis) not intrinsic to bone stability. Defects may be surgically created or traumatic. Spine use limited to posterolateral fusion.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A resorbable calcium salt bone void filler device is a resorbable implant intended to fill bony voids or gaps of the extremities, spine, and pelvis that are caused by trauma or surgery and are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure.
