Intended Use

Osteo-Link Bone Void Filler Pellets are indicated only for bony voids or gaps that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure. These pellets are indicated to be gently packed into bony voids or gap of the skeletal system; such as the extremities, spine and pelvis. Theses defects may be surgically created the defects or osseous defects created from traumatic injury to the bone. The pelleds provide the bone void filler that resorbs and is replaced with bone during the healing process.

Device Story

Osteo-Link Bone Void Filler Pellets consist of high-purity, pharmaceutical-grade calcium sulfate. Device is provided sterile for single-patient use. Clinician packs pellets into non-structural bony voids or gaps in the skeletal system (extremities, spine, pelvis) caused by surgery or trauma. Pellets act as a resorbable scaffold, filling the void and gradually resorbing over approximately 14 weeks as they are replaced by natural bone during the healing process. Device is intended for use by surgeons in clinical settings.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Device conforms to ISO 10993 (biological evaluation) and ASTM F2224-03 (calcium sulfate for surgical implants).

Technological Characteristics

Material: High-purity pharmaceutical-grade calcium sulfate. Conforms to ASTM F2224-03. Sterilization: Radiation (ANSI/AAMI/ISO 11137). Form factor: Pellets. Resorbable.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients with non-structural bony voids or gaps in the skeletal system, including extremities, spine, and pelvis, resulting from surgical procedures or traumatic injury.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A resorbable calcium salt bone void filler device is a resorbable implant intended to fill bony voids or gaps of the extremities, spine, and pelvis that are caused by trauma or surgery and are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure.

Special Controls

*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The special control for this device is the FDA guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance: Resorbable Calcium Salt Bone Void Filler Device; Guidance for Industry and FDA.” See § 888.1(e) of this chapter for the availability of this guidance.
