Intended Use
HEALOS® Fx Injectable Bone Graft Replacement ("HEALOS Fx"), combined with autogenous bone marrow is intended for use in filling bony voids or gaps of the skeletal system (i.e., the extremities, spine, and pelvis) that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure. These defects may be surgically created osseous defects or osseous defects resulting from traumatic injury to the bone. The product provides a bone void filler that is resorbed and remodeled into new bone as part of the natural healing process. The HEALOS® Fx Graft Mixing and Delivery System is indicated for the mixing and delivery of HEALOS Fx Injectable Bone Graft Replacement to a surgical site.
Device Story
HEALOS Fx is a mineralized collagen matrix (Type I bovine collagen and hydroxyapatite, 20-30% mineral by weight) used as a bone void filler. The system includes a mixing and delivery kit with two chambers. In a surgical setting, a physician mixes the HEALOS Fx material with autogenous bone marrow aspirate using the provided mixing chamber. The resulting graft mixture is delivered to the surgical site via the delivery chamber. The material acts as a scaffold, resorbing and remodeling into new bone during the natural healing process. The device is intended for non-load-bearing skeletal defects.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided. Bench testing only.
Technological Characteristics
Material: Type I bovine collagen and hydroxyapatite (20-30% mineral by weight). Delivery system: Copolymer and plastic materials. Form factor: Lyophilized fibrous material for surgical implantation. Delivery mechanism: Piston syringe-style mixing and delivery chambers.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients requiring bone void filling in the extremities, spine, or pelvis for defects not intrinsic to bony stability, including surgically created or traumatic osseous defects. Used in combination with autogenous bone marrow.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A resorbable calcium salt bone void filler device is a resorbable implant intended to fill bony voids or gaps of the extremities, spine, and pelvis that are caused by trauma or surgery and are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure.
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The special control for this device is the FDA guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance: Resorbable Calcium Salt Bone Void Filler Device; Guidance for Industry and FDA.” See § 888.1(e) of this chapter for the availability of this guidance.
