Indications for Use include fixation of complex intra- and extra- articular fractures, osteotomies, high medial malleollar fractures, and low boot top type rotational distal extra-articular shaft fractures of the distal tibia.
Device Story
Pilonplate with Angular Stability is a titanium bone plate system for distal tibia fracture fixation. System comprises low-profile 4, 6, and 8-hole plates with 4.2mm cancellous self-tapping/head-locking screws and 4.5mm cortical self-tapping screws. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings to stabilize bone fragments. Plate and screws provide mechanical fixation to support healing of complex intra- and extra-articular fractures, osteotomies, and rotational shaft fractures. Device is implanted surgically; provides structural support to bone during the healing process.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided. Substantial equivalence is based on design, material, and intended use similarities to legally marketed predicate devices.
Technological Characteristics
Materials: CP titanium (ASTM F 67-00) for plates; 6-4 alloyed titanium (ASTM F 136-02) for screws. Surface treatment: TIODIZE Type II. Features: Angular stability, self-tapping screws, 4/6/8-hole configurations. Mechanical fixation device.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients requiring fracture fixation of the distal tibia, including complex intra- and extra-articular fractures, osteotomies, high medial malleollar fractures, and low boot top type rotational distal extra-articular shaft fractures.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
