Intended Use

Synthes LCP Proximal Femur Plate is intended for fractures of the femur including: fractures of the trochanteric region, trochanteric simple, cervicotrochanteric, trochanterodiaphyseal, multifragmentary pertrochanteric, intertrochanteric, intertrochanteric reversed, or transverse or with additional fracture of medial cortex. Fractures of the proximal end of the femur combined with ispsilateral shaft fractures, metastatic fracture of the proximal femur and osteotomies of the proximal femur.

Device Story

Metallic bone fixation system consisting of contoured plates and screws for proximal femur stabilization. Plate features limited-contact, low-profile design with dynamic compression holes and threaded locking holes. Accepts 4.5mm cortex/shaft screws, 4.0mm/5.0mm locking screws, and 7.3mm cannulated locking/conical screws. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical/surgical settings to provide internal fixation for femoral fractures and osteotomies. Device stabilizes bone fragments to facilitate healing and restore structural integrity of the proximal femur.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Metallic bone fixation plate and screw system. Features dynamic compression and threaded locking holes. Compatible with various screw diameters (4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 7.3mm). Low-profile, anatomically contoured design.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients with femoral fractures, including trochanteric, cervicotrochanteric, trochanterodiaphyseal, pertrochanteric, intertrochanteric, and transverse fractures; fractures with medial cortex involvement; proximal femoral fractures with ipsilateral shaft fractures; metastatic proximal femoral fractures; and proximal femoral osteotomies.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
