Intended Use
The Sensititre Haemophilus/Streptococcus pneumoniae (HP) MIC Susceptibility plate is an in vitro diagnostic product for clinical susceptibility testing of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. This 510(k) is for the addition of Cefdinir in the dilution range of 0.016 - 4 µg/ml to the Sensititre Haemophilus/Streptococcus pneumoniae MIC panel for testing Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae isolates. The "Indications for Use" and clinical significance of Cefdinir is for: Haemophilus Influenzae (including B-lactamase production strains)
Device Story
Sensititre HP MIC Susceptibility Plates are in vitro diagnostic tools used in clinical laboratories to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of antimicrobial agents against specific bacterial isolates. This specific submission adds the antibiotic Cefdinir (0.016-4 µg/ml) to the existing panel. The device consists of microtiter plates containing dehydrated antimicrobial agents. Clinical laboratory technicians inoculate the plates with patient-derived bacterial isolates (Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae). After incubation, the growth or inhibition of the bacteria is observed. The resulting MIC values assist healthcare providers in selecting appropriate antibiotic therapy for patients with infections caused by these organisms, potentially improving clinical outcomes by ensuring targeted treatment.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided. The submission relies on bench testing to demonstrate the performance of the Sensititre HP MIC Susceptibility plate with the addition of Cefdinir.
Technological Characteristics
In vitro diagnostic microtiter plate containing dehydrated antimicrobial agents. The device utilizes broth microdilution methodology to determine MIC values. The system is designed for use in clinical laboratory settings. No specific materials, software, or energy sources are detailed beyond the standard plate format.
Indications for Use
Indicated for in vitro clinical susceptibility testing of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae isolates (including B-lactamase producing strains) using Cefdinir.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
An antimicrobial susceptibility test powder is a device that consists of an antimicrobial drug powder packaged in vials in specified amounts and intended for use in clinical laboratories for determining in vitro susceptibility of bacterial pathogens to these therapeutic agents. Test results are used to determine the antimicrobial agent of choice in the treatment of bacterial diseases.
