Intended Use

Fixation of fractures, osteotomies, and non-unions of the clavicle, scapula, olecranon, humerus, radius, ulna, pelvis, distal tibia, fibula, particularly in osteopenic bone.

Device Story

Small Fragment Dynamic Compression Locking (DCL) System consists of limited-contact profile plates (straight, reconstruction, Oblique T-, Small T- configurations) and 3.5 mm locking screws; also compatible with 2.7 mm/3.5 mm cortex and 4.0 mm cancellous screws. Plates feature combination dynamic compression/locking screw holes. Used by surgeons for internal bone fixation in fractures, osteotomies, and non-unions. Provides mechanical stabilization of bone segments to facilitate healing, particularly in osteopenic bone where traditional fixation may be less secure.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

System consists of metallic bone plates and screws. Materials: stainless steel or titanium. Features: limited-contact profile plates with combination dynamic compression/locking screw holes. Dimensions: various sizes for small fragment fixation. Sterilization: not specified. Energy source: none (mechanical device).

Indications for Use

Indicated for fixation of fractures, osteotomies, and non-unions of the clavicle, scapula, olecranon, humerus, radius, ulna, pelvis, distal tibia, and fibula, particularly in patients with osteopenic bone.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
