Intended Use

The Suction Coagulator is a single use device intended for use in surgical procedures (such as general and ENT procedures) where the coagulation of tissue and suction of fluids are desired.

Device Story

Hand-held, single-use electrosurgical device; provides monopolar tissue coagulation and fluid aspiration. Components: metal insulated French-sized tube, switching mechanism, molded plastic body, cord with plug. Operated by surgeon in OR; coagulation activated via handle-mounted plastic button; suction activated by covering handle-mounted vent hole. Connects to external electrosurgical generators. Coagulation occurs at uninsulated distal end of suction tube. Facilitates simultaneous tissue management and fluid removal during surgery.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical testing conducted. Safety and effectiveness supported by bench testing and verification to IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-2-2 standards, and historical literature regarding use in ENT procedures.

Technological Characteristics

Disposable, hand-held electrosurgical device. Materials: metal insulated tube, molded plastic body. Energy: monopolar electrosurgical current from external generator. Connectivity: wired connection to generator. Sterilization: supplied sterile. Standards: IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-2.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients undergoing surgical procedures, including general and ENT surgeries, requiring tissue coagulation and fluid aspiration.
