Light activation for bleaching materials for teeth whitening Laser-assisted whitening/bleaching of teeth

Device Story

ezlase™ is a dental diode laser system using an Indium Gallium Arsenide Phosphorus solid-state laser diode to emit infrared energy. Energy is transmitted via a flexible fiberoptic cable to a handpiece for delivery to oral soft tissues. A visible light beam pinpoints the treatment site. The device allows user adjustment of power output and pulse width. Used in clinical settings by dental professionals for teeth whitening procedures. The laser energy activates bleaching materials to facilitate whitening. Clinicians use the device to perform procedures based on patient medical history and clinical judgment.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided. Substantial equivalence is based on comparison of indications for use and technological characteristics to previously cleared predicate devices.

Technological Characteristics

Indium Gallium Arsenide Phosphorus solid-state laser diode; infrared energy emission; flexible fiberoptic cable delivery; visible aiming beam; adjustable power output and pulse width; Class II surgical laser instrument.

Indications for Use

Indicated for light activation of bleaching materials for teeth whitening and laser-assisted whitening/bleaching of teeth. Contraindicated for patients with allergies to local/topical anesthetics, heart disease, lung disorders, sleep apnea, immune system deficiency, or medical conditions/medications contraindicating light/laser exposure.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

(1) A carbon dioxide laser for use in general surgery and in dermatology is a laser device intended to cut, destroy, or remove tissue by light energy emitted by carbon dioxide.(2) An argon laser for use in dermatology is a laser device intended to destroy or coagulate tissue by light energy emitted by argon.
