Indications for Use
The Medicam Evolux, Evostar and Evolight pulsed light systems (and included accessories) are indicated for use in surgical, aesthetic and cosmetic applications requiring selective photothermolysis (photocoagulation or coagulation) and hemostasis of soft tissue. It is intended for use for: Removal of unwanted hair from all skin types (640nm to 1200nm); Treatment of benign pigmented lesions including dyschromia, hyper pigmentation, melasma, ephelides (freckles) (510nm to 1200nm); Removal of benign cutaneous vascular lesions including port wine stains, hemangiomas, rosacea, erythema, leg veins(485 nm to 1200nm); and Treatment of benign cutaneous lesions including warts, scars and striae (420nm to 1200nm). The Medicam Evolase pulsed light system (and included accessories) is indicated for use in surgical, aesthetic and cosmetic applications requiring selective photothermolysis (photocoagulation or coagulation) and hemostasis of soft tissue. It is intended for use for: Treatment of benign pigmented lesions including dyschromia, hyper pigmentation, melasma, ephelides (freckles) (1064nm to 1200nm); and Removal of benign cutaneous vascular lesions including port wine stains, hemangiomas, rosacea, erythema, leg veins (532nm to 1200nm). The devices are intended for prescription use.
Device Story
Medicam Evolux, Evostar, Evolight, and Evolase are pulsed light systems emitting wide-spectrum light (420–1200 nm). Systems comprise a console with software/electronic controls, a color touch screen, and a handpiece with an integrated cooling system. Operated by clinicians in surgical/aesthetic settings. Device delivers light energy to target tissue to induce selective photothermolysis or coagulation for hair removal, vascular/pigmented lesion treatment, and scar/wart management. Clinicians use the touch screen to configure parameters; output affects tissue via thermal energy. Benefits include non-invasive treatment of various cutaneous conditions.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence is based on design, functional features, and indications for use compared to legally marketed predicate devices.
Technological Characteristics
Pulsed light system; wavelength range 420–1200 nm; includes system console, electronic control boards, color touch screen, and handpiece with cooling system. Software-controlled energy delivery. Class II device.
Indications for Use
Indicated for surgical, aesthetic, and cosmetic applications requiring selective photothermolysis and hemostasis of soft tissue. Patient population includes individuals requiring treatment for unwanted hair, benign pigmented lesions (dyschromia, melasma, ephelides), benign cutaneous vascular lesions (port wine stains, hemangiomas, rosacea, erythema, leg veins), and benign cutaneous lesions (warts, scars, striae). Prescription use only.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
(1) A carbon dioxide laser for use in general surgery and in dermatology is a laser device intended to cut, destroy, or remove tissue by light energy emitted by carbon dioxide.(2) An argon laser for use in dermatology is a laser device intended to destroy or coagulate tissue by light energy emitted by argon.
