Intended Use
The Surgcraft Surgical Mesh is intended for the reinforcement of the soft tissues which are repaired by suture or suture anchors during rotator cuff repair surgery. The mesh is not intended to replace normal body structure or provide full mechanical strength to support the rotator cuff. Sutures used to repair the tear, and sutures or bone anchor systems used to attach the tissue to the bone, provide mechanical strength for tendon repair.
Device Story
Surgicraft Surgical Mesh System consists of specialized shapes of surgical mesh fabricated from polyester suture fibers; incorporates regions of reinforced holes for secure tissue anchoring. Used during rotator cuff repair surgery to reinforce soft tissues; does not replace normal body structure or provide primary mechanical strength, which is provided by sutures and bone anchors. Available in various shapes/sizes to accommodate patient pathology and anatomy. Implanted by surgeons in clinical settings.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data. Bench testing only: biocompatibility (ISO 10993, EN ISO 10993-1, -5, -12, -18), cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and muscle implantation (4 weeks). Mechanical testing included dynamic tensile fatigue, static tensile, burst strength, suture attachment strength, screw pullout strength, tear resistance, and screw resistance.
Technological Characteristics
Materials: polyester suture fibers. Design: specialized shapes with reinforced holes for anchoring. Mechanical properties: tensile, burst, and tear resistance. Biocompatibility: ISO 10993 compliant. Sterile, single-use implantable device.
Indications for Use
Indicated for reinforcement of soft tissues repaired by suture or suture anchors during rotator cuff repair surgery. Not intended to replace normal body structure or provide full mechanical strength for tendon repair.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
Surgical mesh is a metallic or polymeric screen intended to be implanted to reinforce soft tissue or bone where weakness exists. Examples of surgical mesh are metallic and polymeric mesh for hernia repair, and acetabular and cement restrictor mesh used during orthopedic surgery.
