Intended Use

Pyrenees and Blue Ridge Cervical Plate Systems are intended for use in anterior screw fixation to the cervical spine (C2-T1) for the following indications: degenerative disc disease (DDD) (defined as neck pain of discogenic origin with degeneration of the disc confirmed by history and radiographic studies), spondylolisthesis, trauma (including fractures), spinal stenosis and tumors (primary and metastatic), failed previous fusions (pseudarthrosis) and deformity (defined as scoliosis, kyphosis or lordosis).

Device Story

Pyrenees Cervical Plate System is a spinal fixation device providing support and stabilization to cervical vertebrae (C2-T1). System comprises titanium plates (1-5 levels) and self-tapping/self-starting screws; includes constrained and translational designs. Used by surgeons in clinical settings to stabilize the spine during fusion procedures. Subject device adds additional mono screws to existing system. Components provided non-sterile. Device functions via mechanical fixation to the spine; output is structural stabilization of the vertebral column, facilitating fusion and correcting deformity.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Predicate plates were tested in static compression, static torsion, and dynamic compression per ASTM F1717. Subject screws were determined equivalent via engineering rationales.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Titanium (ASTM F1472, ASTM F136) and CP titanium (ASTM F67). Components: Plates (1-5 levels) and self-tapping/self-starting screws. Designs: Constrained and translational. Sterilization: Non-sterile. Connectivity: None.

Indications for Use

Indicated for anterior screw fixation to the cervical spine (C2-T1) in patients with degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, trauma (fractures), spinal stenosis, tumors, pseudarthrosis, or deformity (scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis).

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A spinal intervertebral body fixation orthosis is a device intended to be implanted made of titanium. It consists of various vertebral plates that are punched into each of a series of vertebral bodies. An eye-type screw is inserted in a hole in the center of each of the plates. A braided cable is threaded through each eye-type screw. The cable is tightened with a tension device and it is fastened or crimped at each eye-type screw. The device is used to apply force to a series of vertebrae to correct “sway back,” scoliosis (lateral curvature of the spine), or other conditions.
