Intended Use

The Synthes 3.5 mm Broad LC-DCP Plates are intended for use on the diaphysis of the long bones (i.e., humerus, ulna, and tibia).

Device Story

The Synthes 3.5 mm Broad LC-DCP (Limited Contact-Dynamic Compression Plate) is a metallic bone fixation device. It is designed for surgical implantation to stabilize fractures on the diaphysis of long bones (humerus, ulna, tibia). The device provides mechanical support to bone segments to facilitate healing. It is intended for use by orthopedic surgeons in a clinical or operating room setting. The plate is secured to the bone to maintain alignment and stability during the fracture healing process.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence is based on design and intended use.

Technological Characteristics

Material: Stainless steel. Design: Limited Contact-Dynamic Compression Plate (LC-DCP). Dimensions: 4.2 mm thick, 13.5 mm wide, lengths ranging from 90 mm (7 holes) to 285 mm (22 holes).

Indications for Use

Indicated for use on the diaphysis of long bones, specifically the humerus, ulna, and tibia, for bone fixation.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
