DePuy Actis DuoFix Hip Prosthesis is a femoral stem component for total or hemi-hip arthroplasty. Device is manufactured from forged titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) with a sintered commercially pure titanium bead porous coating (Porocoat) and a plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite (HA) coating. Stem features various neck designs and sizes to match patient anatomy; compatible with unipolar/bipolar heads for hemi-arthroplasty and modular metal/ceramic heads for total hip arthroplasty. Used in orthopedic surgery; implanted by surgeons. Provides structural support and fixation for hip joint reconstruction. Benefits include restoration of joint function and pain relief in patients with degenerative or traumatic hip conditions.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical tests were conducted to demonstrate substantial equivalence. Evidence is based on non-clinical bench testing, including distal fatigue, neck fatigue, range of motion, and biocompatibility.
Technological Characteristics
Forged titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) femoral stem; sintered commercially pure titanium bead porous coating (Porocoat); plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite (HA) coating. Collared design. Available in sizes 1-12 with standard or high neck offsets. Sterile via gamma radiation. Packaged in double PETG blister with Tyvek lid. 10-year shelf life. Uncemented fixation.
Indications for Use
Indicated for total hip replacement or hemi-arthroplasty in patients with severely painful/disabled joints due to osteoarthritis, traumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, congenital hip dysplasia, avascular necrosis of the femoral head, acute traumatic fracture of the femoral head/neck, failed previous hip surgery, or ankylosis. Also indicated for partial hip replacement in cases of acute fracture, fracture dislocation, non-union of femoral neck fractures, high subcapital/femoral neck fractures in the elderly, or degenerative arthritis of the femoral head. Cementless use only.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A hip joint metal/ceramic/polymer semi-constrained cemented or nonporous uncemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. This device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. The two-part femoral component consists of a femoral stem made of alloys to be fixed in the intramedullary canal of the femur by impaction with or without use of bone cement. The proximal end of the femoral stem is tapered with a surface that ensures positive locking with the spherical ceramic (aluminium oxide, A12 03 ) head of the femoral component. The acetabular component is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene reinforced with nonporous metal alloys, and used with or without bone cement.

Dear Ms. Ramy:
We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food. Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Please note: CDRH does not evaluate information related to contract liability warranties. We remind you, however, that device labeling must be truthful and not misleading.
If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (PMA), it may be subject to additional controls.
